A big £5k thank you for brain injury centre
Allison’s great care inspires family to raise vital funds
An east Perthshire family has raised nearly £ 5000 for a specialist medical facility after walking Jock’s Road from Braemar in Aberdeenshire to Glen Doll in Angus.
The family decided to raise the money to support the vital work of the Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation (CBIR) at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Dundee after mum-of-four Allison Sinclair, who lives in New Alyth, suffered a bleed on her brain last year and spent six weeks there.
The centre provides in- patient rehabilitation to adults aged between 16 and 65 years old who have complex disability following a brain injury.
Patients have individual, goalorientated programmes tailored to their own needs and delivered by a team of nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, clinical neuropsychologists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and others.
Allison’s husband Guy walked the 20-kilometre route on Sunday, August 22, with three of his children and their partners, while Allison and one of their daughters, Laura, and baby granddaughter, Bella, walked the last mile of the route into Glen Doll with them.
And almost a year to the day since Allison left hospital, they presented a cheque for the £4900 that they raised to four members of staff at CIBR, who were a huge part of Allison’s recovery.
Guy said: “Allison was really ill.
“She had a bleed on the brain out of the blue and just about made it and no more.
“The professionalism of the care she received both during the six weeks she spent at CIBR and in the weeks and months following her return home has helped her recovery so much, which is why we want to thank them.
“The team at CIBR is incredible and with their support Allison gradually regained her ability to walk unaided and improved significantly in every aspect of her recovery.
“She has amazed us all with her recovery.
“We feel immensely lucky to have Allison back and we will be forever in debt to everyone who helped her come home to us.
“Hopefully the funds that we have raised will help them help others in similar situations.”
Guy added: “As a family we would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who helped raise this amazing total with the money going directly to CBIR.
“So many people were extremely generous and we would like to thank each and every person who has supported us throughout this time, we are forever grateful.”
