Carriageway resurfacing will cause upheaval

-

Significant upheaval is expected in Blairgowrie later this month as Perth and Kinross Council undertakes carriageway resurfacing work in the town centre.

The local authority is planning to resurface the busy A93 tourist route on Gas Brae, the Wellmeadow and Commercial Street in the east Perthshire town, stretching from the Reform Street junction to the bridge over the River Ericht.

The work is scheduled to start on Monday, October 18, and will take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

A convoy system will be in place from Reform Street to the bridge with a 10mph speed limit while the work is being carried out.

The junctions with Croft Lane, Commercial Street, Tannage Street and Wellmeadow will be closed to allow the convoy system to work efficiently and safely.

However, council officers have said that the works will be phased to carry out one side of the road at a time in an attempt to minimise disruption to the Wellmeadow bus terminals.

During the first phase of the work, the bus services will be relocated to the Wellmeadow outside the parking areas by the solicitors.

The council will carry out the work Monday to Friday, with no weekend working planned.

However, temporary traffic signals and the junction closures will remain in place in the evenings and over the weekends.

Pedestrian access to properties within the area will be maintained for the duration of the work.

The council has said that all affected residents and businesses will be notified through the “usual channels” and that any access requirements will be accommodated
