Two visitors are now allowed into hospitals

Still appointment only and infection measures remain

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

The majority of hospital patients in Perth and Kinross can now have two visitors.

Visitors attending at the same time also no longer have to be from the same household and the requirement for named visitors has been removed.

However, visiting will still be by appointment only.

Although the vast majority of COVID restrictions have eased in our communities, there are still strict infection prevention and control measures in place in NHS Tayside hospitals.

Visitors should contact the ward senior charge nurse/ midwife to arrange a time to visit.

NHS Tayside bosses say there may be some circumstances where it is still not safe for a patient to have a visitor.

No visit will be permitted if a visitor is unwell, has symptoms of COVID- 19, or is currently in isolation and visitors must maintain one metre physical distancing in all communal areas of the hospital.

Visitors must wear a fluid resistant face mask at all times. Masks are provided at the hospital entrances. Visitors are also asked to wash hands frequently and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

Movement around the hospital must be limited as much as possible and any gathering in public areas of the hospital must be avoided.

Visitors will not have access to staff dining areas. Public toilet facilities are open.

Outpatient appointments should be attended alone, unless essential support is required.

The rules are slightly different for maternity and neonatal services visiting arrangements.

Pregnant women may identify one support person to accompany them to all scans and antenatal appointments. They can also identify one birth partner to accompany them throughout labour and birth. A second birth partner may also attend but this must be arranged through the midwife.

Pregnant women may identify one support person to visit on the postnatal ward at any time.

Any two additional visitors are welcome to visit the postnatal ward between 1pm and 6pm.

In neonatal units, both parents are welcome to be with baby at any time. Two additional visitors may be permitted to visit, following local risk assessment.

Speak to the neonatal nursing team to discuss arrangements.

NHS Tayside’s director of nursing and midwifery Claire Pearce said: “It is important for anyone visiting a relative or loved one to remember that there continue to be extra infection prevention measures in place in our hospitals to make sure we keep everyone safe.

“We are grateful for everyone’s understanding and support in following the rules we have in place.

“Where in person visiting is not possible, we will continue to enable contact and support through virtual visiting for patients using telephones, tablets and laptops so that people to keep in touch with their loved ones.”

Members of Crieff Drama Group are looking forward to giving a live performance next month – their first for two years.
The latest of their ever-popular staged readings is being performed in the Chocolate Galley Cafe at The Glass Onion, in Crieff’s West High Street, for one night only on Friday, October 29, at 7.30pm.
The readings are a firm favourite, usually as part of the Crieff and Strathearn Drovers’Tryst having been a fixture in the programme for 10 years.
The group’s Gordon Campbell said:“Courtesy of Carol Wood, chocolatier and Chocolate Galley founder and business partner Brian Doole, this is an exciting new location for the group, and the first time the cafe has played host to an evening’s live entertainment.
“The show is‘Yours Sincerely’, a script conceived and compiled by John Cummings, unfolding a world of letters – famous, infamous, often hilarious.
“An ensemble of Crieff Drama players will inhabit many roles, from the waspish Dorothy Parker to TS Eliot, from customers’letters of complaint to a Tyrolean landlady’s laboured trek through the English language.”
The production is a bring-your-own-bottle event with the audience seated in a cafe table style. A selection of the Chocolate Galley’s baking delights and chocolates will be available to buy.
Tickets, priced at £5 – which includes coffee or tea – can be bought from the Strathearn Arts box office or by calling Ann Morrison on 01764 656375.
