Five of Perthshire’s own in third round of cup

-

Five teams from the Perthshire region are into the third round of the Scottish Amateur Cup.

Ballinluig, Burrelton Rovers, Kettins, Luncarty ASC and Fair City all advanced in the competition on Saturday.

Despite falling behind, Ballinluig mounted a comeback and their determination was rewarded with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Whitfield Tavern. Jack Wilson was the toast of the village after netting both of the goals.

Burrelton Rovers booked their ticket to round three thanks to a well-earned 5-2 away win in the all-Perthshire tie with Breadalbane. Ben Fleming (2), Cammy Conaghan, Andy Round and Mitch Hunter were on the scoresheet for the Rovers in Aberfeldy.

An excellent start ensured that Kettins knocked out visitors Occidental AFC, who play in the Dundee Saturday morning league.

Finishes from Dion Tolmie, Ross Pitkeathly and Jamie Feaks - then an own goal - had the east Perthshire side four up and cruising early doors.

Occidental grabbed one back before the break and then set-up a nervy final 10 minutes by pulling the score back to 4-3. But Kettins showed great team spirit to remain in front and celebrated an impressive cup win.

Luncarty ASC, on home soil, defeated Sporting Tayside 3-2 in an entertaining match. Striker Liam Neil did the damage by netting a hat-trick.

And a youthful Fair City did themselves proud through in Dundee by running out 4-3 winners against Morgan Academy FP. This was a great victory for the high-flying Division Two side.
