Fine start sees Holly fired up for the season Hard work paying off with four successive junior wins

Curler Holly Wilkie-Milne is continuing to enjoy an impressive start to the season.

The former Perth Academy student has now won four successive events playing with Team Henderson.

European Junior Curling Tour ( EJCT) triumphs in St Gallen, Switzerland and Prague, Czech Republic provided a huge boost.

And two wins on the domestic front - at Greenacres and Murrayfield - have ensured the feel-good factor continues to flow strong.

The latest success was at the Asham U21 Slam event at Murrayfield and arrived thanks to a 7-5 final win over Sweden’s Team Foxglide.

Wilkie-Milne, who takes to the ice alongside skip Fay Henderson, Katie McMillan and Lisa Davie, is pleased the hard work is paying off.

“We really hit the ground running and have managed to carry on as we started,” she told the PA. “That has been amazing, especially considering we started this season with a brand new lineup.

“Our training from last season and the pre-season training this summer has really set us up in a fantastic position.

“We are very fortunate to receive such high level training and we can see that it has really benefited us. It’s very satisfying to come into this year’s junior events and see that our hard work has paid off.

“Murrayfield U21 was our fourth consecutive competition win after a very tight game in the final against Team Foxglide of Sweden.

“We haven’t lost a game since the round robin of the Switzerland EJCT at the start of September.

“The winning streak is obviously such a boost for us as a team, and it really has given us the confidence to go out and win these competitions, especially when faced with very high-level foreign teams in the EJCT events.

“The momentum has definitely made the back-to-back competitions and training all the more enjoyable.”

Next up for the team is a trip to Norway for a European Junior Curling Tour event in Oslo.

Another top performance is the plan in order to keep the positive momentum for next month’s Scottish Junior Championships at Curl Aberdeen - noted as being the main goal of the season.

Wilkie- Milne said: “We will definitely make sure we step up a gear before the Scottish Junior Championships in November.

“We are all doing technical and team sessions at the National Curling Academy with our coach Colin Morrison and others, including David Aitken, head of performance foundation with British Curling.

“We are also working hard in strength and conditioning sessions at the gym to ensure we are striving for peak performance for the second half of the season, which kicks-off with the Scottish

Juniors.

“It is our main goal of the season. We hope that all our hard work, dedication and experiences this season will stand us in good stead against all the other strong junior girls teams in Scotland.

“If we won that we would qualify to go to the World Junior B Event in Finland, and then hopefully onto the World Juniors in Sweden. That would be a truly amazing end to a good season thus far, and a fantastic experience for all of us.”
