Goal hero pushes Blair up league

-

Hat-trick hero Cammy McManus netted Blairgowrie a muchneeded Midlands League three points on Saturday.

McManus had opened his account on just six minutes before hosts Dundee Violet levelled proceedings.

The Blair attacker would show off his clinical edge again on 51 minutes, however, to restore the east Perthshire side’s lead.

And he wrapped up the 3-1 triumph in the latter stages of the game to nudge Blairgowrie to 16th in the overall league standings.

While understandably pleased to claim a hat-trick, McManus thinks the performance can still be taken to another level.

“I thought we started off very well,”McManus said after the game.

“We played some good football in the opening few minutes and a mistake from the centre-half allowed us to take the lead.

“We didn’t quite kick on the way we had hoped.

“Second half we looked better but it still wasn’t our best performance of the season.”

Scone Thistle were also through in the City of Discovery on Saturday but were defeated 4-1 by Dundee St James - Kieran Forber netted for the Jags - while Coupar Angus were edged out 2-1 at Forfar West End.

Letham, on home soil at Seven Acres, had the lead twice but ultimately lost 3-2 against Dundee Downfield.

Mark Shaw had opened the scoring after neat work from both Connor Galletly and Nathan Kennedy before Downfield hit back on the stroke of half-time.

Centre-half Adam Storrar restored the lead with a close-range finish early in the second half but, again, the visitors responded as the hour mark approached. They would net the winner on 67 minutes.
