City hosts Royal Scottish Country Dance gathering
The Royal Scottish Country Dance
Society (RSCDS) is preparing for its annual Autumn Gathering in Perth next month.
Members of RSCDS will meet together at Bell’s Sports Centre from November 5-7.
The annual Autumn Gathering and AGM is the first in-person event to be held since February 2020.
The Society, nearing its centenary in 2023, has its offices in Edinburgh and has over 10,000 members in a network of branches and affiliated groups in Scotland and throughout the world.
It promotes“fun, fitness and friendship” through Scottish country dancing events, classes and workshops for adults and children.
During the pandemic, although not able to meet in person, dancers everywhere have kept in touch through virtual classes, dances, musical events and online newsletters.
Lorna Ogilvie (pictured) is the third chairman in recent years from the Perth and Perthshire Branch of the RSCDS following Linda Gaul and Jim Healy, who chaired the society from 1998-2000 and 2014-2016 respectively.
She is particularly delighted to be at the helm when members can finally return to the dance floor.
Lorna said:“I am proud to be RSCDS chairperson as it approaches its centenary year and I very much look forward to welcoming members to the Autumn Gathering this year in Perth.
“Dancers come to this weekend to attend the AGM and also to dance with old friends from around Scotland and further afield.
“Many make new friends, and all have the opportunity to enjoy classes from teachers whose personal touch and inspiration make learning both challenging and fun.
“The highlight of the weekend for all dancers is the Saturday evening Ball.”
