Heartbroken family’s plea over missing pet

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

A Perthshire family still retain hope that their beloved dog will be returned home to them a year after she was allegedly stolen.

October 20 marked 12 months since the female white and brown English Springer Spaniel vanished from kennels in Forneth, near Blairgowrie.

The pooch was one of four small dogs reportedly taken from two kennels close to the town on the same day.

The incidents began when two-year-old Jack Russell terrier Harvey went missing from the front kennel of a house in the Meikleour area at around 9.30am.

A car seen leaving the scene was later found abandoned in a field.

The aforementioned Springer Spaniel, along with two more Jack Russells, then went missing from the kennels at Forneth at around 7.50pm.

A major search involving the Missing Pets Perth and Kinross Facebook page helped spread word across the UK.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged thefts at Meikleour and Forneth, but was then released from custody while police continued to investigate.

Happily, the three Jack Russells were found in the English Midlands, nearly 400 miles from where they lived, within four days of their disappearance before being returned to their owners.

However, the Springer Spaniel taken from Forneth has yet to be found with a renewed appeal launched as the hunt for the young canine continues.

Katie McCandless-Thomas of Missing Pets Perth and Kinross posted on behalf of the owners: “It is a year today [October 20] that this beautiful girl was stolen from the Blairgowrie area of Perthshire.

“Not only was she a working dog she was a loyal companion and friend, and it is just heartbreaking that she is still missing.

“Her kennel mates that were stolen alongside her were found in the Bromsgrove area of England.

“It’s believed this beautiful girl could have been taken to the same area along with Birmingham and Kidderminster.

“She may have been moved on from those areas now though so please look everywhere for her.

“Someone knows where she is and is keeping her location secret and trying to protect the people involved in her theft.

“If you have any information on her whereabouts, you can tell us in the strictest of confidence.

“We most want her back home safe to her family.”

Those with any information can call 07752 101236 or Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 3063201020.
