New council chief executive relishing opportunity to utilise his experience
Perth and Kinross Council’s new chief executive will take up his new role on Monday.
Thomas Glen has left his role as deputy chief executive at East Dunbartonshire Council to take over at the helm of PKC.
After more than 30 years in public service he has said he is“delighted” to be taking up the role.
Barbara Renton has been serving as PKC’s interim chief executive since Karen Reid left at the end of January to take up a new role as chief executive of NHS Education for Scotland in February.
Mrs Renton will return to her role as PKC’s executive director of communities.
Thomas was said to have been appointed following a“rigorous recruitment and selection process.”
Mr Glen has worked with East Dunbartonshire Council since 2009 and as deputy chief executive since 2016.
In the late 1980s he began his career as a community worker and has worked across local/central government, the voluntary sector and consultancy.
After his appointment in August he said:“I am delighted and very privileged to be offered the opportunity to take on the role of chief executive at Perth and Kinross and would like to thank the selection panel for placing their trust in me.
“As someone whose public service career started over 30 years ago, I am committed to working to support local people and communities, tackle inequality and deliver excellent public services.
“I look forward to leading the fantastic team at Perth and Kinross Council and to working with our partners over the coming years.”
At a meeting of NHS Tayside’s board yesterday, NHS Tayside’s chief executive Grant Archibald said he was“looking forward to working with Thomas Glen”and“our commitment to working together to be exemplar employers.”
He added:“As major employers in the region, I think it’s a great opportunity for us to set the standard.”
