Cops probe school pupil attack claim
Police officers have launched an investigation after a teenage girl was allegedly assaulted by fellow pupils at a Perth and Kinross school.
It is claimed the attack on the 14-year-old took place on Tuesday at the education facility, which will not be revealed for legal reasons.
The incident first drew the attention of the authorities after footage emerged on social media, appearing to show images of a female pupil being forced to the ground before being punched and kicked by two other pupils.
Perth and Kinross Council confirmed that a complaint has been made to them in reference to a “bullying incident” and have also launched their own investigation into the allegations.
A council spokesperson added: “We are aware of this complaint and are currently conducting an investigation.
“If a bullying incident does happen, we want our pupils to report it immediately in the knowledge and confidence that it will be dealt with appropriately and effectively.
“All of our schools should be safe, secure, healthy and happy places for our children and young people.
“As such, we take all allegations and incidents of bullying within our schools extremely seriously.
“We also have an anti- bullying strategy which is underpinned by each school’s own individual policies, setting out how they will deal with reported incidents of bullying and bullying behaviour.
“Schools actively work to reduce bullying and address concerns through a range of approaches based on individual circumstances.
“We would always encourage children, young people and their parents or carers to report any incidents of bullying so appropriate action can be taken.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police inquiries are ongoing following a report of a 14-year-old girl having been assaulted within a school in Perth and Kinross on Tuesday.”
