Lynsey and Cathryn love all things horror

- Lynsey Davies, 32, Cardiff

e and my identical twin sister, Cathryn, have always had a dark side.

We’ve always loved reading twisted tales like Roald Dahl’s The Witches.

And, growing up, we’d watch horror movies like Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Far from scared, we craved more and more gore.

Age 12, we wrote our own story about people getting chopped up.

‘It’s funny!’ laughed our mum, Lynette, now 58.

Our elder sister, Sarah, now 35,

Mwas our opposite and hated horror.

‘Weirdos!’ she’d tease – but she loved us, really! As teens, our ‘goth’ fashion sense developed – anything black or PVC with studs. Both wearing size 8, we’d buy one outfit and share it.

Our creative flair led us to write spooky short stories, and self-publish them online.

We’re always finishing each other’s sentences, so we take turns to write a bit at a time.

In September 2012, writing under our joint pen name, CL Raven, we

published Soul Asylum, about a haunted mental hospital.

It was shortlisted for Writing magazine’s Self-publishing Awards 2013.

Spurred on, in October 2015, we released our second novel – The Malignant Dead. Set in Edinburgh, it’s actually inspired by a true story…

Now full-time authors, we spend up to eight hours a day writing or researching.

When it comes to horror, we’ve got real tw-intuition!
