Pick Me Up! Special

EALLY IS BLIND!

discussed marriage.

Phil wasn’t the sort for grand gestures, so I wasn’t expecting an extravagant proposal.

Then, on 9 June 2015, I got home from work around 5pm.

Phil’s car wasn’t in the drive as normal. Strange.

Indoors, I found a note on the hall cupboard: I want to treat you tonight, expect a knock at the door at 7pm.

Next, arrows on the floor led me upstairs. Another cryptic note on the bathroom door simply read: Get pampered…

He’d run a bath, surrounded by candles, and laid out three dresses for me to choose from. At 7pm came a knock. ‘Your carriage awaits,’ our mate, Matt, 25, grinned, pointing to his Honda Civic.

Setting off, Matt handed me a blindfold. ‘No peeking!’ he said. Twenty minutes later, Matt stopped and helped me out of the car.

Guided into a building, suddenly, a voice boomed from a speaker system. ‘Remove the blindfold,’ it said. I was in a dark, empty cinema. Then Phil’s face filled the screen, followed by dozens of photos of us, while my favourite song, Lifeline, by Angels and Airwaves, played.

Speechless, I burst into tears as, three minutes on, the film urged me to turn around… Phil was down on one knee! ‘Marry me?’ he smiled. ‘Yes,’ I nodded, as Phil placed a diamond ring on my finger.

It turned out that Phil had spent two months planning the proposal.

I’m touched he made a reel effort!
