LIFE CHANGING ACTIONS
Shaken Baby Syndrome is
an injury to a child’s head as a result of physical abuse. It can be caused by direct blows to the head, or by dropping or shaking a child. The highest rate of cases occurs among infants aged just six to eight weeks old, which is when babies tend to cry the most. In many cases, the parent or caregiver can’t get the baby to stop crying, and out of frustration, will shake the baby. This forceful shaking causes the baby’s head to rotate uncontrollably. The violent movement rocks the brain back and forth within the skull, rupturing blood vessels and tearing brain tissue, ultimately causing severe brain damage or death.
