Pick Me Up! Special

Madrid for Seville

-

Compact, rich in history, and famous for its flamenco, tapas bars, and orange trees, this southern Spanish city is an ideal getaway. Explore the cobbled streets of Santa Cruz and the exquisite Alcazar Palace, before soaking up some rays on the banks of the Guadalquivir.

Must do:

Visit a Flamenco bar: Seville lives and breathes Flamenco, a Spanish art form made up of guitar playing, song, and dance. Any trip to Spain would be incomplete without this. Climb La Giralda Tower: Built in 1184, this ancient tower was once a Moorish landmark used to call people to prayer. It is now a Christian cathedral topped with an Italian bronze sculpture. Instead of stairs inside, there is a series of ramps. Admire the gargoyles on your way up, and be rewarded with a stunning view of the city when you get to the top.

Must try:

Secreto Iberico: Probably one of the most melt-in-your mouth cuts of pork that exists, you can’t go wrong if you ask for this at any restaurant worth its salt in Seville. Torrijas: If you have a sweet tooth, you must seek these out on your visit. These sumptuous treats are made from stale bread soaked in eggs, before being deep fried and covered in sugar syrup, honey, or sweetened milk. Is your mouth watering yet?
