Nagging Doubts

‘I struggle to make decisions and even when I commit to something, I just constantly second guess myself! How can I trust my gut instinct?’

Smita Joshi, Transformational Coach and author (www. smitajoshi.co.uk) says that learning to trust yourself is one of the most significant abilities that we as human beings can develop. It’s also one of the most challenging. But it can be done. Follow her tips for a more confident you… BECOME SELFAWARE Start by listening to your ‘mind monkeys’ which are the negative thoughts we all have in our heads. Mind monkeys tend to chatter among themselves and give the impression that they are your thoughts, but they’re not. Next time you’re making a decision, be aware of this. For example, when your mind says ‘You never get it right!’ know that this is not the real you, it’s just your unconscious internal dialogue. GO DEEPER Visit the part of you that exists beyond your doubts and fears, and the source of your confidence. This is who you are designed to be. ‘It’s like a sparkling diamond deep within you,’ a guru I once met in India told me. Visualise your ‘inner diamond’ shining bright. What does it feel like? How does it think? A connection with your deeper self will give you the courage to take positive action.

TEN MINUTE BREATHER Take ten minutes a day to focus on your breath. Eyes and mouth closed, take a smooth, long breath in through the nose and slowly exhale through the nose. Make each breath deeper and slower. Your choices will become more clear and confident.
