LASTING LEGACY
In 1983, the anniversary of Etan’s disappearance was declared as National Missing Children’s Day and went international. Finally missing children and the problem of child abduction was featured in the media. The coverage included the ‘Atlanta Murders’ - 28 bodies, mainly children, were found in lakes and ponds in Atlanta over a two year period. Wayne Williams, then 23, was arrested for the murders but only convicted of two. He continues to insist he’s innocent but remains the prime suspect.
