What is laryngeal cleft?

Laryngeal cleft is an incomplete fusion of the tissue between the upper airway or larynx, and the oesophagus or feeding tube. Food and drink then pass into the lungs.

It is a congenital disorder and the degree of absent tissue or cleft varies over five grades.
