Human parainflue­nza viruses (HPIVS) commonly cause upper and lower respirator­y illnesses in children, but anyone can get infected. it takes about two to seven days before symptoms develop, and these include fever, runny nose and a cough. HPIVS can also cause more serious conditions such as croup, bronchitis or pneumonia.
