Human parainfluenza viruses (HPIVS) commonly cause upper and lower respiratory illnesses in children, but anyone can get infected. it takes about two to seven days before symptoms develop, and these include fever, runny nose and a cough. HPIVS can also cause more serious conditions such as croup, bronchitis or pneumonia.
