Pick Me Up!

Cutting It!

Anna's boy's a real snip star!

- Anna Blyth, 34, Horsmonden, Kent

Plating up the Sunday roast, I noticed my 5-year-old son Max was staring at my hair. May need a brush, I thought. Max finished his meal, then raced straight back upstairs.

I peered in later and he was looking at Youtube on his ipad.

‘Is that a hairstyle tutorial?’ I asked him, puzzled.

It was September last year, and he’d just started school.

He’d mentioned the make-believe hairdressing salon in his class. And he sometimes helped me brush my curls.

But this was on a different level.

‘Look at this!’ he said, showing me the result. It was a pretty fishtail plait. I agreed to let him do my hair and was stunned by the results.

‘He’s really good,’ I told my husband Rob, 35, a builder.

Max didn’t stop talking about his hairdressing.

Then the school salon was removed as one child had cut another’s hair off!

‘Now I can’t practise,’ Max cried.

Wanting to encourage him, we bought him a £20 model head, brushes, pins and some hair doughnuts. Max spent hours copying videos from Youtube. Distracted with looking after his sister Daisy, 2, I didn’t realise how good Max had become. I’d walk into a room and see the incredible work on his model head. I shared photos on Facebook and a stylist agreed to give Max a lesson at home – and taught him how to curl hair using rollers. His model head has lost nearly all its hair from too much styling! Now he wants one with real hair, and has his sights set on his own salon in London!

I said he’s got to work hard at school first. But I can’t deny I’m proud. It might just be a phase, but there’s no denying that my son’s definitely a cut above!

He’s set his sights on having his own salon in London!
