Pick Me Up!

Lorna was able to treat the family with her winnings

For me, playing was all about having a good time

As my niece and her two boys snuggled on the sofa, I smiled. They lived with me and I loved having them around.

The boys are footiemad Newcastle United fans. I support Sunderland.

So we enjoyed a bit of footie banter.

‘Wish Sunderland good luck, they’ll need it!’ they’d tease.

When I wasn’t chatting football, I enjoyed Pick Me Up! Bingo.

While the boys were at school, I’d play a few games. My favourites were the slots.

I’d had a few wins over the years but, for me, it was all about having a good time.

Then last August, I won a few tickets for Playoff Palace, so I could play the weekly free games on a Sunday.

When Sunday came, I got ready to play with my tickets.

The first and second games played out, but I didn’t win. But after the third played out, the message Winner! flashed up on my screen.

I’d scooped the £1,000 jackpot!

When I told my niece and the boys, they were thrilled.

I knew exactly what I’d spend my winnings on.

The boys were desperate to see their team play.

So I bought them tickets to see Newcastle United. ‘Yay!’ they cheered.

I also bought them some Xbox games and other bits.

I treated myself to a meal out, but the real enjoyment was seeing the boys so happy.

And I have Pick Me Up! Bingo to thank for that!
