After my parents broke up when I was 4, my mum raised me, while my dad moved abroad. I tracked him down when I was 17, by which time he’d moved back to the UK. We were both pleased to be back in each other’s lives, but our relationship has been rocky. He has been helpful whenever I needed it, but we’ve also had a lot of rows. We’ve stopped talking at least three times in the last 15 years, and it’s always me who makes the first move to make up. Am I wasting my time by trying to have a relationship with my father?
