Debbie does pole dancing – in her kitchen!
Ipoked my tummy forlornly. An active kind of gal, I’d always kept trim by doing things like Thai boxing, swimming, even belly dancing.
But recently I’d let that slip and now my belly was dancing on its own.
‘I need to shift a few pounds,’ I thought.
I was 5ft 3in and 11st – not horrendously overweight, but bigger than I was comfortable with.
So I joined a slimming club, started eating healthily.
But I wanted something to boost my fitness as well as shift the pounds.
So when I saw an advert for Pole Kittens – a studio that teaches pole dancing – I leapt at the chance.
Going along in January 2016 I was nervous. I’d no idea what to expect. After all, pole dancing has a bit of sleazy reputation. But I loved it! During the class we were taught to walk around the pole and how to do a basic spin.
Harder than it looks!
Keen to practice, I remembered some money my mum, 69, had given me.
I knew exactly what I’d spend it on – my very own pole!
I couldn’t wait. The day it arrived, I installed it straightaway – in my kitchen!
‘You did what?!’ Mum guffawed when she heard.
But my kitchen is huge. The pole fitted perfectly.
Mum loved it. She even tried a spin, too!
And, when I met my boyfriend William, 40, this June, his face lit up.
‘Cool!’ he said, clambering on for a whirl.
You have to be a bit careful, though.
Last year I fell while hanging upside down. I tore ligaments in my leg and got some bruises, or ‘pole kisses’ as we call them.
I still have a whirl at home whenever I can. Heaven knows what the neighbours think!
But, weighing 9st 13lb at my peak and sporting toned arms and legs, I’m hooked!
Pole dancing isn’t just for strip clubs. It’s cooking up a storm in my kitchen, too!
