Pick Me Up!

How can I help her?

-

QEarlier this year, my sister had a baby with cerebral palsy and is facing so many challenges. I want to be there for her but I don’t know what to say half the time, or how I can help. I don’t want to let her down. Lily, Bournemouth

AI think that your sister will need you more than ever at the moment, and just being there for her will be more than enough.

Having a baby with additional needs can be hard going, and as much as your sister will love her child and adore them, she will also be getting used to a new way of living and working out all the extra care the baby needs.

Knowing that she has a strong support network around her who are there to take over with all the usual baby things, as well as attending appointments and navigating the medical world they will now be part of, will be a great help.

At the end of the day, this is your sister, so be there for her with all the love, care and understanding that you can offer, and she will let you know what else you can do to help her and her little one in the days and weeks to come.
