MP happy with more easing of lockdown

AN MP has welcomed the easing of lockdown measures after it was announced gyms, beautician­s, tattooists and salons could reopen.

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage had fought on behalf of those in the industry to ministers – including Fitness24 Gym which ran a campaign with its members lobbying for a date to open.

The government announced beautician­s, tattooists and salons can open from Monday, July 13 and gyms and some leisure facilities can open from Saturday, July 25.

Outdoor pools can open today and some outdoor opera, theatre and music performanc­es can open on Monday.

Ms Dinenage said: ‘This is such welcome news for many business owners across the Gosport constituen­cy.

‘I have spoken to many salon owners, tattooists, gyms and their customers in recent weeks who were so eager to see a date for reopening announced and I raised these with ministers.’

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: ‘The reopening of gyms is the news millions have been waiting for.’
