‘It was clear just how many lives she had touched’ – our reporter on scene
THERE was barely a dry eye in sight as Louise Smith’s coffin was carried through the streets of Leigh Park yesterday morning.
The disappearance and tragic death of the teenager came as a major shock to the surrounding community.
Speaking to some of the mourners who lined the streets, it was clear to see just how many lives Louise touched. People spoke of a kind-hearted and cheerful young lady, who was always looking out for other people.
Indeed, now is the time for Leigh Park to champion those ideals – and they have promised to be there for the teenager’s family in this difficult time.
From friends and family to people who had never met her, there was a fierce sense of togetherness.
As one mourner put it, everyone in the area seems to look out for one another, and the tight-knit community spirit will always remain.
The call to arms for bikers to ride out with Louise also saw an incredible response, with hundreds of riders – many of whom were ex-forces personnel – doing their part to make the occasion a special one.
It was a day filled with sorrow, but people gathered to mark the tragic occasion had plenty to commemorate about Louise’s life.
