Dubious comments

- Keith Allman

I write regarding Fred Whittenham’s letter of July 8 about David Starkey’s resignation from the Mary Rose Museum.

Fred says, ‘surely all views re slavery and violence count’.

Well no, not really.

David Starkey’s claim that slavery doesn’t count as a genocide on the basis that black people still exist is utter nonsense.

Presumably he would not have dared to say that the Holocaust wasn’t a genocide because there are still Jewish people? David Starkey felt comfortable making these dubious comments in public, coupled with the way he said it.

And not to mention his previous comments following the 2011 London riots that ‘the whites have become black’.

Is he really the sort of person we want representing one of our largest tourist attractions?
