Blues will be quids in if Haunstrup departs - but Killie would pay far less than Rovers
POMPEY will be entitled to a small windfall should Brandon Haunstrup join Kilmarnock.
But the Blues will net just a fraction of what they would receive if the left-back were to complete a move to Bristol Rovers.
Haunstrup looks likely to depart his boyhood club this summer on a free transfer, having grown frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities.
He featured 19 times this season and was omitted from both legs of the League One play-off semi-final defeat by Oxford United.
Pompey have tabled the Waterlooville lad a new deal following the expiry of his contract, although he appears set to depart, as Kenny Jackett looks to rebuild his side ahead of next season.
It is understood that Kilmarnock are keen on him and there’s a strong chance he will join the Scottish Premiership side.
Reports north of the border suggest he visited Killie last week.
As Haunstrup is only 23, Kilmarnock would have to pay compensation – as long as the contract offer he was to turn down from Pompey was the same or more than the previous deal he penned in 2018.
When a player under 24 rejects fresh terms to move elsewhere in England, the two clubs can agree compensation by mutual agreement.
If not, the case goes to a tribunal where the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) decide how much the team losing the player should receive.
The panel takes into account factors such as appearances, interest from other clubs, age and time with the academy.
However, moving to Scotland means the PFCC have no jurisdiction and cross-border switches come with a lower indemnification fee.
FIFA rules, which any Haunstrup to Kilmarnock move would fall under, state that training compensation starts from the season of the player’s
12th birthday through to the season of their 21st birthday.
Bristol Rovers remain admirers of Haunstrup and were interested during the January transfer window.
If the attacking fullback was to move to the Memorial Stadium, Pompey would bank a much larger sum than they would from Kilmarnock.
Haunstrup’s been at the club since the age of six and the PFCC would take into account the cost of his training over that time.
