‘It’s disgusting’

Anguished victim speaks as rogue trader who made £95,000 is ordered to pay back just... £1 – with a month to pay

-

A ROGUE trader who made more than £95,000 botching building works for vulnerable clients has been ordered to pay back just £1.

Portsmouth Crown Court was told Scott Dungworth, pictured, had no assets.

He has a month to pay the £1 but prosecutors could claw back more if he comes into money.

One of his victims, David Barnden, 76, who lost £57,000 to Dungworth, told The News: 'I'm disgusted actually. The money he made from us was scandalous and I wasn't aware of all the other people that appeared in court.

`The fact that he's only got to pay back £1 - I'm actually speechless. My house is still in bits.'

Dungworth, 44, is serving five years in jail for fraud.

PLANS to make Fareham Borough Council carbont neutral by 2030 have taken a step forward – with the calculation of the authorities carbon footprint.

aThe council has calculated that its carbon footprint from April 2019 to March 2020 was 3661.44 tonnes of carbon dioxide and/ or equivalent greenhouse gasses.

For comparison, the UK sees the average person have a carbon footprint of 8.34 tonnes.

Executive member for Streetscene at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Simon Martin, said: ‘This important work to calculate our carbon footprint was delayed by t he pandemic, so it’s good to see it moving forward.

‘We know that environmental issues are now a matter for global concer n, so it’s crucial as an organisation that we play our part.

‘Once our carbon baseline figure has been rubber stamped, we can move forward with the steps we need to take towards becoming carbon neutral.’

A meeting of the Executive Committee will consider the results of the carbon footprint calculation on Monday October 12.
