A ROUND-UP of some of the recent cases before Portsmouth magistrates.

Neal Stacey, 53, of George Street, Portsmouth, was found guilty of two charges of assault by beating and causing harassment, alarm or distress on August 15 last year at Tesco Extra in Southsea.

He was jailed for 24 weeks after also being convicted of causing harassment, alarm or distress on July 25 last year.

Magistrates said there was a homophobic incident causing long-lasting distress to the victim. He also headbutted a security guard and spat at the guard.

Musa Burgu, 21, of Liston Gardens, Upper Edmonton, London, admitted assaulting a man in Albert Road, Southsea, on November 10 last year. He admitted failing to turn up at court on November 26. Magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge with £50 compensation and £21 surcharge. He must pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Jay Emery, 24, of Cranell Green, Basildon in Essex, admitted threatening to damage an address and Range Rover in Portsmouth on July 10. Magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge with £22 surcharge and £85 costs.

A restraining order bans him from contacting the victim for three months.

Scott Trevaskis, 43, of Woodcutters Drive, Wecock Farm, admitted stealing £153.82 worth of goods from TK Maxx in Fareham on November 19 last year.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge with £21 surcharge and £85 costs.

Hamish Foulis, 57, of

Velder Avenue, Milton, admitted speeding at more than 60mph on January 13 on the A30 westbound in Devon. Magistrates spared him a points totting ban as employees could lose their jobs if he did not drive.

Magistrates fined him £138 with a £32 victim surcharge and received three points on his licence.

Charmaine Collins, 26, of Boyd Road, Gosport, was found guilty of harassment between January 30 and February 5 in Fareham.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with 10 days’ rehabilitation activities. She was fined £200 with a £90 surcharge and £500 costs.

She admitted flouting a conditional discharge for assault by beating and damaging a mobile phone.

Paul Grzegorz, 35, of Parsonage Estate, Petersfield, admitted drug-driving in Fawcett Road, Southsea, on January 3. Magistrates banned him for three years with 150 hours’ unpaid work under a 12-month community order. He must pay a £122 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
