Holidays abroad are among things that we have missed most during the coronavirus pandemic. Research shows that the average Brit has not jetted off for a break for a year.

Nearly a third of the British public (28%) has confessed they daydream about their next getaway every single day with 42% missing everything about the holiday experience.

The nationwide study reveals that 45% of the UK said being in lockdown has made them crave new holiday experience

Viewing the Northern Lights, watching a sunset in Santorini and visiting the Colosseum in Rome have been voted the top sights that Brits are looking forward to seeing post-lockdown.

Sailing around the Greek islands and travelling the fjords of Norway also ranked high on the list of the perfect post-lockdown holidays, with the top ten breakdown as follows:

Visit the Northern Lights in Iceland - 32%

Watch the sunset in Santorini - 27%

Feel the sand between your toes at the beach in Tenerife; sail around the Greek islands - 26%

Visit the Colosseum in Rome - 25%

Travel the fjords of Norway - 21%

Eat a slice of pizza in Naples - 20%

Ride in a gondola in Venice - 19%

Take a canal tour in Amsterdam - 17%

Eating paella in Valencia - 16%

The great news is that Brits can still enjoy the majority of the top ten most longed for holiday experiences without having to quarantine when they return home. With many of the most voted for experiences based in countries currently exempt from quarantine rules.

Walking the old town of Lisbon (12%) was also identified as a top holiday moment the nation is missing. This is an experience that is now possible for Brits to enjoy

after Portugal was removed from the quarantine list.

Since this occurred, easyJet has seen bookings to the country increase and great value seats are still available for September.

The research also uncovered the holiday sights, sounds and smells we’ve been craving, and reveals what Brits are missing most about holidays is feeling the sun on their skin (52%).

This was closely followed by the sound of lapping waves on the beach (41%), tasting local cuisine (38%) and watching the sunset (38%).

The nation is desperate to take a holiday with someone they love (38%), explore a new city (35%) and discover a new country they’ve never visited before (35%).

One in five (22%) admitted that a British break is not the same as a hot holiday abroad. In fact, 36% of the nation will

be ensuring that their next holiday is the best one ever, with 60% hoping to jet off with their partner, 35% with their kids and 18% looking forward to a break with pals.
