Tips on how to become elected
PROSPECTIVE politicians are invited to learn more about becoming a county councillor at a virtual event this month.
The online event is open to anyone considering standing for election for West Sussex County Council and will take place at 6pm on Wednesday, October 21.
Janet Duncton, chairman of the county council, is urging residents to ‘ give it a go.’ She is joined by other county councillors in a new video to explain what the role involves.
She said: ‘You get out of it what you put into it. I work hard but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
‘When you actually can make a difference for the better it’s a good feeling.
‘As chairman of the county council, my work usually involves attending functions, events and presentations. Covid-19 has made a huge difference to that part of my life. Nearly all my meetings have been virtual since May so I’m not meeting colleagues and officers face-to-face.
‘It’s working well but I’m looking forward to when we can meet in person again.’
The event will be held via Microsoft Teams. People can register to join here: https:// www. event b rite. co.uk/e/ be-a-councillor-in-2021-tickets-116865175887
It will include presentations about what the county council does, what it means to be a councillor and the realities of working in a political environment.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.
