No Way! Bishop’s ‘big’ new addition

Hayling United boss delighted to add new midfielder

DAN BISHOP is hoping Hayling United's 'big' capture of George Way can help bring the best out from his young squad.

The midfielder has agreed to drop down two divisions to the Hampshire League Premier Senior Division after leaving Baffins Milton Rovers.

Bishop is understandably delighted the Humbugs have managed to attract a player of Way's calibre, who also counts Gosport Borough as one of his previous clubs.

The Hayling boss believes his vast experience and calming influence will have a positive impact on other members of the squad.

Bishop's side have made an indifferent start to their league campaign, winning just four of 10 matches to date. But he is hoping bringing Way on board can provide the dressing room with the kick-start they need.

‘George is a good player who has been around the Wessex League and higher for a while,' said a delighted Bishop He’s a good player. A creative central midfield player who can play as a no10 as well.

‘He’s probably the sort of player we need to start linking our squad together.

‘We’ve got a lot of young, talented players with a lot of energy.

‘But sometimes we look a bit forced, calm us down a little bit and get his foot on the ball.

‘He’ll be a good influence on the lads, I’ve got no doubt about that.

‘Hopefully, George will come in and calm things down a bit - I think he’s going to be a big signing for us.’

Bishop admitted he has already had players approach him enquiring about joining Hayling since Way arrived.

But for the moment the Humbugs boss has rebuffed those interested in making a move to the club. Instead, he wants to remain loyal to a young squad that has served him so well.

‘We’ve already had a few lads from a few teams showing interest in coming over now we’ve signed George,' Bishop revealed.

'I think loyalty is important and it works both ways.

‘If I’m expecting my players to be loyal to me, I need to be loyal to them as well.

‘I’m never going to be one for making massive changes to the team.

‘If some other players do creep into the side in the next month or six weeks or so that will be for the right reasons.’
