Leagues to meet and discuss step 3 restart

-

Southern League officials will be part of weekend discussions on how to restart seasons at step 3 level.

A meeting will take place between representatives from the Southern League, Isthmian League and Northern League today after the government's area tier announcement on Thursday.

The Southern League - the level which both Gosport Borough and Moneyfields operate at - had scheduled a restart date of Saturday, December 12 earlier this month.

Yet, despite leagues being given the green light to resume from Wednesday with the nationwide lockdown lifting, more stringent tier measures introduced across the vast majority of England have now put a step 3 return next week in doubt.

Teams from areas placed under tier two restrictions are able to continue to welcoming a restricted number of spectators but, unless operating as restaurants, clubhouses must remain closed.

Meanwhile, areas where clubs are under the highest tier measures must play matches behind closed doors although players and match officials can still travel to fulfill fixtures.

The step three league trident have called a meeting for today to discuss the restart with many teams not seeing a resumption financially viable while restrictions remain on spectator numbers and the sale of food and drink in stadiums.

Southern League Division One South side Moneyfields are due to return to action with a home FA Trophy first round tie with league above Truro City next Saturday (December 5).

Dave Carter's side are then scheduled to return to league action at Slimbridge on Wednesday, December 9.

Southern League Premier South Gosport have a planned trip to Yate Town on December 5.

Some leagues at step 5 and 6 level have already taken the decision to put back planned restarts.

The Northern League, where 37 of the 40 clubs playing within that region are under tier three restrictions, will not start before December 16 - when the government is due provide an update on tier levels. Meanwhile, all matches in the Southern Counties East League have been postponed up until Boxing Day. The League will meet in mid-December to review the situation.
