AN INDEPENDENT yarn and fabric shop has expanded into new premises after seeing a boom in customers.

The Boutique Haberdashery has moved into a newer bigger shop, a few doors down from its old shop, in West Street, Fareham.

The business was set up by Kim Hayman six years ago – and her sister Jess Hayman is now in charge.

Owner Jess, from Stubbington, said: ‘We recently moved into bigger premises, which is really great. We have had a lot of support.

‘The reaction has been really good to the new shop.

‘There’s a lot more space to browse, it's brighter so people can see all the colours of what’s on offer and we have a bigger street presence so we have had lots of lovely new customers too.’

The business moved into its new shop, which is in former offices, last month.

However, lockdown meant it could not officially open its doors to the public until earlier this month.

Jess, 24, said they put a lot of work into renovating the unit to get it just right – and she encouraged people to visit and support businesses.

She said: ‘It’s going really well. It looks great.

‘It’s really important to shop local at the moment, especially with everything that’s independent going on in the world.

‘Lots of small businesses are struggling.

‘It’s nice to show support and support the smaller shops to make sure they will be there in the long run, rather than just the big chains.’

The News launched its #supportlocal campaign earlier this year.

The campaign, which is backed by all of JPI Media’s titles, urges people to shop local and vote with their feet and wallets in order to protect small businesses, boost the local economy and show community spirit.
