IN THE COURTS
DEFENDANTS at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court have been sentenced for their crimes.
■ Dinesh Bantawa, 36, of East Street, Fareham, was found guilty of stealing meat worth £73.84 from Tesco in Portsmouth on July 3. Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with 15 days’ rehabilitation activities. He was fined
£200 with £73.84 compensation to pay.
■ Thomas Chandler, 28, of Southwood Road, Hilsea, admitted failing to comply with a community order.
Magistrates extended the order with 18 days’ rehabilitation activities. He was fined £116 with £60 costs.
■ Christopher Richards, 39, of Myria Way, Gosport, admitted having amphetamine, a class B drug, on January 12 in Portsmouth. He was fined £60. An order was made to destroy the drug.
Richards admitted stealing three packs of razors worth £24 from Superdrug in Gosport on March 7.
Magistrates fined him £100 with a £32 surcharge.
■ Neal Stacey, 53, of George Street, Buckland, admitted assault by beating on June
30. Magistrates jailed him for 12 weeks — it was a nighttime attack against a shop worker who was grabbed by the neck. Stacey must pay a £128 victim surcharge.
■ Lee Cattrall, 29, of
Aylward Street, Portsea, admitted damaging a door in Basingstoke on February
25. Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with 20 days' rehabilitation activities and 40 hours' unpaid work. He must pay a £90 surcharge and £85 costs.
■ James Farrow, 44, of Compton Road, Hilsea, was found guilty of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a BMW who was alleged to be guilty of an offence on April 10. Magistrates fined him £660 with a six-month ban. Farrow was also convicted of the same offence relating to March 18 and fined £660 with a £132 surcharge and £85 costs.
■ Jamie Holmes, 31, of North End Avenue, North End, admitted driving without insurance in Kingston Road, Fratton, on June 29 last year. Magistrates imposed a £450 fine with
£45 surcharge and £85 costs. Magistrates imposed six points on his licence but he was not banned as he would not have been able to pay child maintenance if he lost his driving licence.
■ Cerys Lester, 19, of Rowlands Square, Petersfield, admitted causing racially-aggravated harassment, alarm or distress on October 15 last year in Portsmouth. Magistrates ordered her to pay £75 compensation. She admitted damaging items.
