Lambert: We can’t let that happen
PAULLAMBERT had some ‘harsh words’ for his Ipswich Town troops after they were booed off the pitch following their loss to Pompey, writes WILL ROONEY.
The Tractor Boys’ boss felt his players got what they deserved in their 2-0 defeat to Kenny Jackett’s side at Portman Road on Saturday.
Further pressure has now been piled on the under-fire Lambert, with the 2,000 returning Ipswich fans letting their frustrations known at the final whistle.
Lambert told the East Anglian Daily Times: ‘We can’t let that happen. There have been harsh words in the dressing room on that side of it. You cannot let it tail off, because there are so many games to play.
‘You get the bigger ones back and crack on, but you cannot turn up and think you’re going to win a game of football playing like that.
‘Everybody knows. Everybody hears things and knows what’s going on. And sometimes you need that. You definitely need that.
‘Before you wake up and the horse has bolted you have to realise what you’re involved in.
‘Listen, everybody pays a lot of money. Given what’s happened with the pandemic, you can’t grumble. Because we lose. We don’t play well. You can’t grumble.
‘You just have to get on with it and move on to the next game. It’s not nice for anybody, but that’s football.
‘Imagine if it was a full house. That would be a little bit different. Or if we were playing in front of 60 or 70 thousand people. Then it’s who’s got the biggest cojones as I call it.
‘We’ve got another game on Tuesday night, but I tell you what, if we play like that again, we’ll lose again. That’s the reality of it.
‘Hopefully everybody regroups and we get one or two back. I don’t know if they’ll be ready, though.’
