Brave Bonnie takes plunge and snips off all her hair for charity

Nine-year-old’s locks will be made into wigs to help children and young people who experience hair loss through cancer and other conditions

A BRAVE young girl is feeling proud after raising hundreds by chopping off her long locks to support a cancer charity.

Nine-year-old Bonnie Rose Harrison is sporting a new short hairdo after lopping off about 12 inches of hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust.

Her locks will be made into wigs for children and young people experiencing hair loss through cancer or other conditions.

Bonnie Rose, from Leigh Park, said: ‘I wanted to donate my hair to The Little Princess Trust because there are a lot of boys and girls who lose their hair when they are unwell and my hair is really thick, I probably have enough hair to make three wigs.

‘I love my new short hair, it feels so weird. Everybody at my school loves my new hair.’

The Year 5 Riders Junior School pupil was inspired to support the charity after another girl at her school braved the chop at the beginning of term.

Sadly, Bonnie Rose has lost some family members to cancer, so understands how the disease affects people’s lives and wanted to do something to help.

Mum Jennifer said: ‘She totally understands the disease unfortunately first hand. She’s really empathetic about it and wanted to do something.

‘She’s doing so well and I’m really proud of her, she’s a little superstar.

‘The Little Princess Trust is such a good cause. It’s good to do something like this when they’re little, it sets her up on a good path.’

Jennifer, who used to be a hairdresser, created Bonnie Rose’s new short hairdo look after she has had long hair for quite a few years.

The young fundraiser’s efforts have brought in more than £400 for the charity already, with friends, family and teachers from school donating generously towards her cause.

Bonnie Rose said: ‘I'm very happy I've raised so much money to help The Little Princess Trust to make the wigs as it's very expensive to make the wigs.

‘I'm surprised and really grateful for the support and donations from my friends and family.’
