Bailey hits treble as Lodge bag maiden win

-

Joshua Bailey hit a hat-trick as East Lodge Youth claimed their maiden win in the Mid-Solent League.

Jordan Davies and Louis Jeffrey were also on target in a 5-1 victory over Carberry at King George V.

Bailey has become the fifth MSL player to reach double figures in terms of goals this season.

He joins Mob’s Harry Potter (19), Portchester Rovers’ Bobby Read

(16), Burrfields’ Jack Palmer (13) and Strawberry’s Connor Mansfield (10).

It was East Lodge’s first success at the 10th attempt, having previously picked up only two points from nine outings.

They were hopeful of building on that against Wymering tomorrow, but the Mid-Solent League has now been paused until the new year following Portsmouth’s elevation into tier 3 status.

The only games due to take place between now and January 9 were the ones scheduled for this weekend.

Meon Milton head in 2021 as the MSL leaders after a ninth straight victory last weekend.

Goals from Barry Jeans, Bayley Whitcombe - his eighth goal of the season - and Chris Kreisz gave them a 3-0 at new cellar dwellers AFC Stubbington.

After losing all their games in their debut 2019/20 season, Rowner Rovers have now won twice this term.

Last weekend they defeated Horndean United 2-1 with goals from Forrestall and Mason.

Nev Farley converted a hat-trick of penalties as Wymering defeated Cowplain 6-1 at King George V.

Wymering were awarded a FOURTH spot-kick but that was saved.

Gosport Borough and Moneyfields are unlikely to be back in competitive Southern League action until the second Saturday of January.

The SL last staged league games on the last Saturday of October, and the pause button has been pushed again on clubs at steps 3 and 4 level.

‘Since the initial survey on the

2nd December the infection rate has deteriorated in the geographical footprint of our Member Clubs, which has resulted in a larger number of Southern League Clubs being placed in Tier 3,’ said a Southern League statement.

‘In reaching this decision the Board considered several factors such as the lack of income from secondary spend revenue, the reduced attendances at Tier 3 clubs and more importantly, the duty of care the league has to Players, Club Officials, Volunteers and Supporters during this current pandemic.

‘The board has not yet set a formal re-start date but this is unlikely to be before the 9th Jan 2021,’ said the Southern League statement.

‘Clubs will be given at least 10 days notice of the recommencement of the 2020/21 season allowing them preparation time to stage League matches.’

The Isthmian League - covering clubs such as Bognor Regis and Chichester City - have taken a similar view. But Northern Premier League games are restarting this weekend with a view to a full programme on Boxing Day.
