Distressing

-

Your issue on December 17 showed a very interesting picture in the article 2020: A year in review.

There is a lovely picture of

Cllr Donna Jones and friends celebrating Brexit on January 31 at the Lord Palmerston pub in Southsea.

Now we can see why the Brexit talks are dragging on for so long as the Union Flag that they are holding in the picture is clearly upside down indicating the distress that was to be seen over the next few months.

Then, lo and behold, on the Community Views page Geoffrey Brooking has penned one of his glowing references to the leadership of Matt Hancock and Boris Johnson regarding coronavirus. How ironic that in the couple of days since that article we now find ourselves in Tier 3, including Geoffrey's home town of Havant.

In a letter to The Sun newspaper on November 23, Geoffrey points out that Boris Johnson was absolutely right to draw a line under the Dominic Cummings and Lee Cain saga that has so badly damaged government relations.

Well, Geoffrey, if Boris had dealt with Cummings the way that the rest of us thought he should then, perhaps, we would not be in the situation that we now find ourselves in.

It is due to Boris’s lack of leadership that allowed Cummings to continue in his post for months more before he was shown the door that has contributed to the way that the general public have decided what's good enough for Cummings is good enough for us.

Finally I think that Geoffrey should seriously consider changing the name of his dog from Boris to something that is more down to earth and has an element of common sense.
