A CHARITY that helps veterans and serving members of the armed forces is hoping to drum up some extra support with their festive raffle.

Forgotten Veterans UK, which is based at Fort Cumberland in Portsmouth, is selling 200 tickets to its draw, which has a top prize worth more than £1,400 donated by security firm Safevue.

The winners will be drawn via Facebook Live at 6pm on January 4.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt gave her backing to the charity, which was set up in 2017 and offers a support service to all veterans.

She said: ‘Forgotten Veterans are an amazing organisation. Run on a shoestring, they help hundreds of veterans in dire straits every year.

‘They put people's lives back together again through support but also by finding a new purpose for those people in life through services to others.

‘I want to thank Safevue and all who are helping them to raise funds to continue their vital work.’

A spokesman for the charity posted on its Facebook page: ‘ONLY 200 TICKETS AVAILABLE. Some great prizes to be won. £10 per ticket. Please share and tell your friends.

‘Massive thanks to the team from Safevue for putting up this great prize. Safevue are a fairly new company that are offering a great service to people so they can keep their homes and businesses safe and sound during these difficult times.

‘MP Penny Mordaunt introduced Safevue to us when the company was looking for a good cause to make a donation to. So many thanks to Penny for thinking of us.’

Andy Kircher, of Safevue, said he was inspired to help after hearing about the good work the charity does, such as its buddy scheme, and its support for financial hardship, health and housing issues and advice on benefits and employment issues.

He said: ‘They’re entirely funded by donations and when we saw the work they do we decided to donate a fully fitted CCTV system worth £1,400 for the top prize. It is a great charity doing great work.'

Other prizes include limited edition Royal Engineer Monopoly sets.

Tickets cost £10 and can be bought from forgottenveteransuk.com
