Global security systems training firm hits 25 years

Company began offering services in Meon Valley

-

A SPECIALIST training company that started in the Meon Valley is offering its services worldwide as it marks it 25th year in business.

Tavcom Training has been providing training courses on security systems from its Bishop’s Waltham base since 1995.

The firm, which is part of the Linx International Group, has trained more than 50,000 learners in 100 countries.

It was set up by Mike Tennent, who saw a growing need for accredited courses with the rise of security technology such as CCTV, alarms and IP networking.

Kevin Matthew, operations director said: ‘ We are immensely proud of our rich 25-year heritage and as the security market and technology continues to evolve and grow, Tavcom is committed to being a trusted and respected training partner for learners at every stage of their career.’

Key to the company’s longevity has been its ability to keep up to date with the changes on technology.

Kevin said: ‘ In 1995 there were training courses which were accredited by a variety of industry bodies, but there were no standardised vocational qualifications, that were universally recognised by employers in the UK and overseas.’

A milestone came in 2001 when Tavcom’s BTEC courses were accredited by the Edexcel Foundation.

Kevin said: ‘‘This proved to be a game changer for the security industry, with quantifiable and accredited qualifications available for the first time.’

Tavcom now has a wide range of qualifications and it has taken the lead in other industry-defining initiatives, notably the Certified Technical Security Professional (CTSP) Register.

Launched in 2017 and managed by Tavcom, this professional public register recognises the competency of individuals who are fulfilling technical roles in both the electronic security and fire sectors.
