The best option

-

Thanks to Derek Dod for his courteous rebuttal of my alleged ‘true blue' stance ( Be more critical, December 30)!

I totally agree with his ‘anti

Boris’ attitude – never liked the odour of Eton-educated influence on our Tory leaders and yes he has a

suspect track record.

But I voted for the best option and that certainly was not Corbyn, Abbott and co – never in a thousand years.

Can anyone imagine them negotiating anything with anyone? Not a ‘true blue Tory’ either, Mrs May was a disaster and treated with disdain and disrespect by both the EU and disgracefully by her fellow Tories.

Cameron ditto, a posh boy out of his depth – charming but a weak waffler who was also treated badly by Sarkozy another French anti-UK clone like Macron – I recall him turning his back on Cameron on camera. To get Brexit over the line (and that is what UK legally voted for) a tough stance was needed, the ability to be dogmatic, determined and definitive on what we wanted – Boris was the man for the job on the day. For the future probably not and I suspect he knows it. But, and it might be a big but, who will want the mantle of responsibility with Covid plus Brexit exit?

As for Derek’s jibe of ‘where are they’ regarding my hope that Boris is surrounded by smarter colleagues, the next 12months of EU free government and ditto hopefully Covidfree life will answer that question. Finally assuming Derek is a socialist, perhaps his vision can spot a rare pot of talent on the opposition benches not evident to us mere mortals. Keir

Starmer excepted, bring out the binoculars!
