Blues chief addresses interest in Seddon

- - NEIL ALLEN

POMPEY CHIEF executive Mark Catlin has admitted the club are targeting a new left-back recruit.

And he wouldn’t ‘discount’ a potential return for Steve Seddon.

Following Cam Pring’s Bristol City recall, the Blues require left-back competition for first-choice Lee Brown.

Now recovered from his latest hamstring problem, the 30-year-old is poised to line-up against City in Sunday’s FA Cup encounter.

However, Kenny Jackett is in the market for another left-back addition to bolster his 21-man squad.

Former loanee Seddon is on Pompey’s radar after recently returning to parent club Birmingham from a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon.

When asked directly about the 23-year-old,

Catlin wouldn’t dismiss the possibility of a Fratton Park reunion.

He told The News: ‘We are still open minded on a leftback, we’re trying to get the best person for the role.

‘For a team that’s on such a great run it’s important that stability is the name of the game. But it doesn’t take a lot of working out that, with Cam going back, we need another left-back.

‘Obviously we have Lee Brown, but you try to look for cover all over the pitch, so it’s logical that it’s a position we are looking at.’

Seddon made 19 appearances for AFC Wimbledon this season, starting all but two of those matches.

With injuries in the leftback position at St Andrew’s, though, he was recalled from League One and served as an unused Birmingham substitute in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Blackburn.

Seddon enjoyed a successful loan spell at Fratton Park last season, making 18 appearances and scoring once.
