Times are tough, but we can all help make a change for the better

-

And so 2021 begins as 2020 concluded.

So much sadness, pain and grief and yet out of all this sorrow there is a remarkable amount of kindness, compassion and benevolence shown by so many. What I admire in numerous people is their commendable efforts in helping others, without any soundbites or fanfare, they give without reward or recognition.

An optimist understands that life can be a bumpy road at the best of times, however, few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push to begin the day, a push to do right, a push to understand our social responsibilities, a push for truth against deceit, a push to ensure after a long day we can acknowledge we have done our bit in helping to control this deadly virus.

We all should be optimistic that the cloud hanging over us will lift, perhaps not in the timeframe some are suggesting or without further sacrifice. Take heart that science has given humanity the tool to exit this affliction and it is now for our political leadership not to mess it up; not to promise what cannot be delivered but to be realistic in the objectives and set an exit strategy that can be honoured.

While the daily data statistics are moving in the wrong direction, please remember every one of us is empowered to push the statistics in the other direction. Through our actions by keeping to the rules and being wise we can reduce the distress on ourselves and others.

The clouds of despondency at times may try to mask the rays of light that will lead us out of this nightmare we are all facing, the resolve of humanity will win through, a test of our perseverance.
