Boris Johnson

-

I read T Pearson’s letter on December 30, and yes Boris said ‘get Brexit done’. To do this he had to get rid of a load of backward thinking, negative conservatives and replace them with hard working positive thinking conservatives, and

got brexit done. We must not forget that these successful ministers, your words, (that were thrown out) were against 17.4 million people that voted to leave the EU. You say that Boris’s new MPs are yes men and women, I say hardworking, positive-thinking MPs.

Terry, you doubt if Boris is up to the job. When Boris takes on a job like London Mayor, he gets a good team around him and each one or group will be tasked a job to do, that’s how he works. Not everything works out, as with things we all do, sometimes the muck hits the fan in any walk of life. What do you do? Pick yourself up and try again. We all should not be afraid to fail, to fail is to lear n and do better next time. People that have made no mistakes have not done any work at all. You mentioned G Brooking’s letter on December 22, ‘must get ahead of the curve’, I agree, but the curve keeps moving, so have to move to catch it and overtake it.

You say ‘he has had a privileged life’, I agree again, probably a lot better than my upbringing, but this sounds to me like a lot of sour grapes.

Whatever Boris does with lockdown or not he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. There are always people that think he should have done this or that.

M Gove and J Hunt could not do the top job in my opinion (we all have our opinions).

As for D Dod’s letter on December 30 writing about J Cole’s letter on December 21. (I had to find a back issue to read).

J Cole says ‘Boris is not perfect, we all know he is a frontman, a bit of a chancer, a bit of a lad, but hopefully surrounded by colleagues much smarter’.

You quoted that statement and said those qualities does not make a good prime minister. I have news for you; Boris is a very smart cookie. By playing the ‘clown, as you say’ he will pounce on anyone who takes him for a fool. Again I read in your article, ‘Eton educated’ is that sour grapes again I hear and does this sound like bitter remainers at work.

Please tell me if I am wrong. David Walter Richmond Rise, Portchester
