‘People have become blasé with the risks, and their part in reducing the spread’

-

HEATED discussions over the potential tightening of Covid19 restrictions has divided people throughout the city.

After residents flocked to the seafront in their thousands over the course of the weekend, and with the government warning that the worst of the pandemic is yet to come, some experts and politicians have called for further policing or enforcement of lockdown measures.

The News asked readers for their thoughts on Facebook, with a wide variety of opinions.

Sasha Renwick said: ‘You can't trust people to follow the rules when they're selfish.

‘Police, army and security could be used to enforce the rules and actually hand out fines – the amount of people I see in shops wearing masks with their noses out or groups of people that are obviously not all from the same household out together is stupid.’

Garnet Chedgey said: ‘So many people have become too blasé with the risks and their part in reducing the spread of the virus; 490 have now died of Covid-19 at QA now – that’s 490 mothers, fathers, partners, children and friends, with thousands surviving but suffering debilitating longterm problems.’

Patty Cox added: ‘The new strain is incredibly contagious and we need to protect each other by staying in.

‘Perhaps it should be when you even go out for your walks, wear a mask.’

But others believe that there isn’t much more that can be done, and instead it falls to us to play our part.

Michael Munday said: ‘What more can we do but sit in doors seven days a week and go to supermarket once a week.’

Margaret Jackson added: ‘Why don’t people look after themselves and their families, without someone having to spell it out to them.

‘Just because there are some who are too stupid to do the right thing is the reason we’re all in lockdown again. I can’t believe there are those waiting for the government to tell them what to do.’
