Avoiding risk

-

Have recently seen your coverage of the social media posting by a woman claiming ‘the hospital's corridors were the quietest she has ever seen’ ( NHS chief hits out over ‘disrespectful’ posts about QA, January 4).

My husband has had to visit QA twice in the last few months and although he was wary and a little hesitant these appointments had to be attended albeit on his own, which is not ideal but safer.

He told me that he felt safer because the corridors were a lot quieter due to the restrictions and the clinics themselves were well run and safety conscious and any unnecessary movements were restricted.

The only complaint he had was when he had to go to the pharmacy. People were sat well apart but a woman came into the waiting room without a mask and promptly crouched down on the floor to speak to one of the pharmacy staff through the gap at the bottom of the screen! Unfortunately, that member of staff also crouched down on the other side of the screen and spoke to the lady through the gap, which seemed ridiculous to my husband,

My husband then had to ask this person to move away from being near to him as she was not respecting the 2m rule. Unfortunately, not once was she challenged by any of the staff in the pharmacy for not having a mask. She did not have an exemption lanyard. He was shocked that nobody in the pharmacy seemed to tell her even though there were other people in the waiting room, waiting for their prescriptions. My husband is a shielded patient and has to be very careful so this was worrying for him so I believe more risk is from visitors not abiding by the rules than anything else. Jackie White Gosport
