Police still questioning man over fatal stabbing

POLICE are continuing to question a Southsea man arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing in Buckland – and say they are in the area today investigating.
Officers were called to Pickwick House in Buckland at 12.43pm on Monday following reports of a serious assault.
A 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.
Following the incident a 23-year-old man from Southsea was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
Detective inspector Matt Gillooly of Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Unit said: ‘A man lost his lifeon Monday so we must ensure we do everything to gather all potential evidence so that the person responsible is brought to justice.
‘We understand that members of the public will be concerned about what has happened.
‘We would like to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the community.
‘Officers remain in the area today carrying out enquiries in order to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
‘If anyone has any concerns, please come and speak to us.’
The police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen or heard anything. In particular anyone who may have CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area at the time is urged to come forward..
