Watch and wait

If David Clark of Widley would care to reread my letter headed Time to Go (December 30) he will find that nowhere did I say Brexit was a good or bad thing.

In fact, I’ve taken a pledge so say nothing on the subject for at least six months, by which time we might have some facts about the outcome and know which side of the Brexit argument told the biggest lies.

What I did say was that many experienced former ministers were no longer in government and have been replaced by novices at a time of national emergency and that Johnson, time and time again, having been given the scientific evidence, has dithered and delayed in implementing the steps required.

We’ve had yet another example over the weekend of January 2 and 3. Labour leader Starmer was calling for full lockdown.

On the Marr TV show Johnson was saying further measures may be needed in future.

Johnson and secretary of state for education, Williamson were saying all schools should open on January 4, then it was just primary schools, followed quickly by almost no schools.

By Monday night Johnson was finally on TV announcing lockdown three. I find it hard to understand how anyone believes that the likes of Williamson and Johnson are up to the job in this emergency.

In my original letter I suggested Conservative MPs Michael Gove or Jeremy Hunt are more proven administrators and would have done a different, and better job than Johnson and co.

I stand by this and that a national government should be considered to ensure that advice from our top scientists is used only for the benefit of the country and not political or financial gain by anyone.
