Pring confident Pompey can seal a Championship return
CAM PRING has hailed the talented ex-Pompey teammates he is convinced will finally deliver a Championship return.
And he believes the promotion charge will be accomplished by the best team spirit he has ever encountered.
The left-back’s season-long loan from Bristol City was brought to a premature end earlier this month.
Pring had been enjoying himself at Fratton Park, making 14 appearances and settling into Old Portsmouth accommodation.
However, with injuries affecting their defensive selections, the Robins wanted him back.
And the 22-year-old is adamant he has left behind a promotion-winning squad.
Pring told The News: ‘Pompey definitely have enough to get promoted – and the best team spirit I have come across.
‘We proved in the first half of the season that we would win ugly, the Hull game for example, but we also turned up and blew teams away.
‘We have both sides of the game – it’s just consistency.
‘They have one of the best squads, if not the best squad, in the league. They definitely have the players to get promotion.
‘We showed that we could beat sides around us. It’s the ones struggling we struggled against, which is a bit odd. On our day, though, we could have turned up and beaten anyone.
‘Then you look at the dressing room, what a team spirit.
‘With most teams, it clicks when there are 3-4 players who are really close. In this dressing room everyone is close with each other.
‘Everyone knows what they want to achieve and helps trying to achieve that, even if not in the team. It’s the whole squad rather than people being left out.
‘I've had a few very good dressing rooms which I have enjoyed being in, but this is the best for the team spirit and in terms of everyone working for each other.
‘That group of players are not satisfied with a goalless draw against a team around us, they want to win every game.’
Pring has now been challenged to win Bristol City’s left-back spot, with Jay
Dasilva injured and current incumbent Tommy Rowe a midfielder.
Yet his affection for Pompey remains – wishing his former colleagues every success in their remaining League One campaign.
He added: ‘Ellis Harrison is the dressing room joker, really loud from the minute you walk in.
‘Ronan Curtis and John Marquis demand off people. Even in training they demand the best.
‘I felt welcome straight away. I didn’t know anyone, whereas other loans I knew one or two, so it was a bit different - and they made me feel so welcome.
‘I wish them all the best and really hope they get promoted. Pompey’s a massive club and they need to get back to where they belong.’
